Rutile Teapot Water Pipe
A friend and I came up with the design for this pot about 13 years ago. I just loved the idea of a pipe that is in disguise as a teapot, so it can stay relatively inconspicuous on the shelf. It was a little tip of the hat to my high school ceramic teacher basically saying if anyone made a smoking implement, it would be destroyed, not fired. The spout of the pot acts as the female stem of the water pipe. It has a bulbous reservoir of its own, which has a small tube that angles down to the right level for your water. Put the lid on, pull the bowl piece out and it just looks like a fancy tall teapot. Iron oxide washed stoneware, with rutile glaze dipped in tenmoku, giving a nice stark bluish white/black contrast.
Care: Run hot water into the top for a while to rinse out anything residual, can clean using typical cleaners for glass pieces.

The junction between the bowl piece and the pot is made to fit nicely using just a flexible leak seal tape, can be replaced easily. This has been the best option I have found for making a nice seal for ceramic on ceramic.
