Special Iron Washed (Tea) Bowl

$138.00
sold out

Through all the processes of making, this bowl came out almost perfectly round. From throwing to trimming and both bisque and glaze firing, it just didn’t warp or waiver much at all. it was made from a mix of my recycled clay with a few additives including lots of 60 mesh grog (basically ground up bisque fired clay powder). With heavy trimming, the grog leaves a unique rough texture, after firing I meticulously hand sanded with sand paper until it was silky but not smooth to the touch. I washed it with iron oxide and glazed just the top of the rim and inside with an off-white glaze, that also, miraculously didn’t show any of the oxide used in decoration. I dubbed it the “perfect tea bowl” though it can be used as a regular bowl as well.

Hopefully its new owner will cherish it like I have. I design my work to feel good in the hand and this one really does.

Care: Hand wash recommended, but this bowl is dishwasher safe.
